Emily Larkins was born in 1981 on the beautiful Otago Peninsula of New Zealand. She learned to navigate the world as the eldest of three daughters on a sheep and beef farm near Portobello. Emily left Dunedin for Christchurch in the year 2000 to study Professional Photography before returning to Dunedin to work in Early Childhood Education. After two years with under-fives, she chose to attended Dunedin College of Education and complete her Bachelor of Education, Teaching Primary.
Following ten years educating five, six, and seven year olds at a large, city school, Emily has now come full-circle, returning to the family farm to raise her children and write. She lives there in her dream house built by her father, with her husband, two young daughters (the sixth generation on the farm), and SPCA rescue cat, Whiskers. When not writing novels and short stories, Emily can be found, reading, taking photos, watching movies, or attempting to tame her rambling vegetable garden. "The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle." "Words are sacred. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones, in the right order, you can nudge the world a little." "The true alchemists do not change lead into gold; they change the world into words." - William H. Gass |
