This contemporary fiction story came about, quite by chance, after I read a random comment on Twitter. It entertained the notion of strangers meeting and forming a relationship during quarantine. I noted it down in my phone, intending to transform it into a prompt for my original prompts board on Pinterest. Instead, a story began to form and demanded to be written. Indeed, as is often the case, the characters took over. When it's like that for a writer, the best thing to do is just go with it and see where they lead you. Please be aware, before reading MUSHY PEAS, that this story contains adult content and is not intended for children (I'd advise a conservative 18+). I have to say, some of the subject matter surprised even me as I wrote, and I had no clue of the ending held until I wrote the final few sentences! It's certainly not a bland imagining of what lockdown could be (I drafted this just before New Zealand moved into Level 4 Lockdown, so it is very much from imagination only). Unusually for me, this story isn't necessarily set in New Zealand. It's not winter here yet, so it could be almost anywhere with a large city setting, winter with snow, and with a river. The only place it can't be set is the USA, given that one of the main characters has been caught short on his way home to the US, so really, it's up to you! In short, this is a cheeky, and very much fictitious imagining of quarantine in some far-off place, intended to provide some light relief only. Let me know what you think in the comments section. Have fun with it!
