Cora Parker is in crisis. Battling anxiety, depression, a doomed relationship, and the all-consuming demands of teaching, she finds herself on the brink of life-changing decisions that must be made for the sake of her health.
When Cora is given the opportunity to convalesce in the remote but beautiful Marlborough Sounds, circumstance forces her to take it up. Here she comes under the care of an elderly gentleman, Frank, and his mysterious, moody nephew Atlas.
Won over by the serenity of Frank's isolated home, Cora begins to make progress. Away from constant reminders of her failures, and with incredible inspiration all around her, she picks up her passion for drawing again. But the unexpected conflict with Atlas grates. She discovers he has returned home to heal, too. The effects of intense work stress working on the post-quake rebuilds in Christchurch and Kaikoura, compounded by alcohol and unfortunate circumstances have taken a serious toll.
Cora and Atlas, at first at odds, slowly grow toward friendship and recovery until Frank's jealous daughter warns Cora of the danger she's in with Atlas so close. Compounding her problems, she has to return to the job that broke her, and a disagreement with a friend pushes her to the brink.
How will Cora cope? What will she learn? Will she ever find her inner-strength again?
